Grey's Games 2026
A birthday power trip I'll never forget. I have subconciously been planning this for 20 years. Thank you to all participants and friends. Here is a quick recap and analysis of this psychological experiment.

Game Overview
- Quarter Guess – Each contestant guessed the number of quarters in the prize jar. Teams were assigned based on who guessed most similarly.
- Partner Sit – The first step to getting to know your partner was seeing if they had your back.
- Staring Contest – A staring contest on windy hills was a recipe for tears.
- Grape Toss – A partner grape toss to prove synergy.
- Plank – The longest-standing teams avoided a strike.
- Penne Pickup – Chopstick penne pickup. Most pieces collected in a minute wins.
- Wheelbarrow Race – A partner wheelbarrow race to avoid elimination.
- Coin Flip – Flipping a coin into the prize jar.
- PIG – A Spikeball game of PIG. Quite boring.
- Spikeball – A nail-biting Spikeball finale decided by two points.
Coin Guess
With 308 quarters in the prize jar, guesses varied wildly, averaging just 191.8.

Teams
Team 1
Eric & Javier – My favorite partnership of the games.
Lin locked in. With a guess only 7 above the actual count, this Boy Scout meant business. Javier was feeling self-conscious that all the other men had gone swimming with me, so he was quick to get close to Eric. When Eric publicly accused his own wife of blinking during the staring contest, Javier knew they had something real.
They swerved through wheelbarrow lanes, tossed grapes, and admired Eric's unusually long planking torso. Eric was so locked in during the coin flip that he didn't even realize they had already been eliminated. He jumped for joy into Javier's arms before I had to break the news that their budding bromance was over.
Team 2
MichTam & Tanya were a sleeper duo.
Their tenacity somehow carried them all the way to five strikes. Their nimble fingers dominated the penne pickup, and sheer willpower kept them alive during the plank challenge. MichTam simply refused to lose. If Tanya didn't have her tumbler or jalapeño dip in hand, she was giving the games everything she had.
Team 3
Nish & Austen/Kanika
I expected this trio to make it further into the contest. Nish arrived with the most confidence, which ended up being their biggest disadvantage. An intimidating bowed-head strategy quickly turned into wide-open eyes that let even more wind into his tear ducts.
An immediate staring-contest loss followed by a double-or-nothing coin flip gave them two quick strikes. As they were simultaneously providing canine security for the event, they selflessly stepped away from the competition.
Team 4
Collin & Jeanne
A steadfast team that held the lead through much of the competition.
I avoided spoiling any of the games because Jeanne is a small woman with an impressively large capacity for trash talk. Collin fired line-drive grapes as they managed four grapes down the gullet in a row.
Their run ended at the coin flip, where it was revealed that Jeanne had somehow never flipped a coin before.
Team 5
Alejandro & Neha were a dangerously competitive pair who fought their way to the finals.
The only thing more noticeable than Alejandro's juicy Venezuelan booty during the plank competition was his grass-stained khakis. Neha even committed to cartwheels during the final round, but by then the crowd had already been lost.
Team 6
Chintan & Maya – Eyes of steel and misguided enthusiasm.
I'm not entirely sure what I expected from this duo. Chintan seemed happiest after losing; internally, I think he was hoping for an excuse to dance.
Maya may be used to making Reid cry, but she brought Javi to tears during what was arguably the best staring contest of the entire games.
Team 7
Reid & Mishnish
With Reid being my least competitive friend and Michelle being one of the most competitive people there, I could practically feel her pain.
That said, Reid is such a good friend that he attended the party twice because he forgot his keys the first time. After Michelle realized she literally had to carry this man on her back during the partner sit, I suspect she strategically tanked and headed straight for the chips and dip.
Team 8
Ashish & Leah
Running on no sleep and juggling multiple birthday parties, Ashish arrived ready to be a disruptor.
Leah may have been the most efficient player of the day: she lost quickly and still walked away with enough laundry quarters to last until next year.
Team 9
Javi & David
I didn't think this team would make a comeback after fumbling the quarter guess, with David missing by 238.
Javi's preparation shined. His wrist straps proved he was more than just a keyboard warrior. Between his performance shades and strategic meat bribery, he helped carry the team to the championship.
David recovered from his quarter-guess spiral by deciding to walk away with pride instead of quarters. His name may be David, but he is a G.
Honorable Mention
Nicole
Unable to compete in the games, Nicole hauled snacks and accounted for the entire guest list for an hour and a half. A friend indeed to one in need.
